Body Language Hands on Hips Gesture

nextbackOn this page we’ll be looking at the body language of the hands on hips gesture.

A woman will often use the  hands on hips gesture in order to accentuate her figure in a display of courtship. This is a sign that she is attracted to the individual she’s showing the posture too.  The reason for using this gesture in attraction is to say “Do you see my curvy hips? Doesn’t your animalistic side think my body is perfect for bearing a child? So, now you’re thinking about sex, right?’ Needless to say, if a girl is showing you this gesture you should be pretty optimistic. She is definitely into you!

Of course, this gesture is not the same for men (it’s used by gay men to show femininity but very very rarely by straight men).

Here are the other interpretations of this gesture.

Hands on Hips Body Language 1: Ready

Using the body language hands on hips gesture with both hands on hips is a ready position, showing that an individual is ready for action, which is why you’ll see athletes standing in this position before the start of their event.

Hands on Hips Body Language: Stubborn

Children will often show a hands on hips posture when arguing with their parents. In this instance, hands on hips means that the child is not going to be a pushover.

Hands on Hips Body Language 3: Dominance

The body language hands on hips gesture is also a sign of dominance because it makes us take up more space. Because of this, it’s one of the best stances women at work can assume to show authority.
