Science Shows That Spiritual Healing Works For Depression

New scientific research has shown, by that thickening parts of the brain cortex, mindfulness and meditation offer spiritual cures for depression. Researchers studies 130 people and discovered that the people who were highly spiritual had thicker portions of brain cortices that can guard against depression.

Because they thicken these brain cortices, meditation and mindfulness are two of the most effective spiritual cures for depression. These practices are particularly effective at helping people who are predisposed to depression. The research was carried out by Lisa Miller, director and professor of Clinical Psychology at Columbia University’s Spiritual Mind Body Institute.

Professor Miller’s research, which was published by JAMA Psychiatry, studied 103 adults who were at high or low risk of depression. These individuals were asked to value the importance of spirituality in their lives. MRIs were taken of the participants and showed that those who highly valued spirituality had thicker cortices.

This research shows that religion and spirituality are cures for depression. But what specific spiritual practices offer the best spiritual cures for depression?
