Here it is ladies and gentleman: the most awesome thing you’re going to see all day. The Yaybahar is an electric-free accoustic instrument. It’s the invention of Gorkem Sen. The strings transmit vibrations via coiled springs into the frame drums. Membranes then turn the vibrations into sound and echo is back and forth on the coiled springs. The result is an amazingly relaxing, almost hypnotic sound.
The following performance has been captured in realtime with no effects or processing. This is what the instrument really sounds like. The harmonics are stunning. Listen at 3:45, when Sen starts plucking strings. The echos sound beautiful.
Send recorded this with two Zoom H4N recorders. Put on a set of headphones for the complete experience!
It took five years for Sen to create this sound. Here’s the result. Hope you liked it! Give it a share on Facebook and let your friends listen. And let us know your opinions in the comments below.
